Young NAYL players in blue jerseys running with lacrosse sticks during the September Play Day in Sedona

Families from Flagstaff, Prescott and Sedona will gather Saturday, October 24th, for an afternoon connecting youth lacrosse with the college game.

For a young lacrosse player, seeing the game played in college can make the possibilities feel a little closer. This Saturday, Northern Arizona Youth Lacrosse families can watch NAU’s women compete—and then see their own players take the field.

NAYL’s next Play Day takes place Saturday, October 24th, from 2–4 p.m. at NAU’s South Recreation Fields in Flagstaff, immediately following three women’s lacrosse games featuring NAU, Grand Canyon University and Arizona Storm.

The afternoon will bring together youth players from Flagstaff, Prescott and Sedona, continuing the connections built at September’s Play Day in Sedona.

College players become familiar faces

Some NAU women’s lacrosse players will stay after their games to help with the youth portion. NAU’s men’s lacrosse head coach and several men’s players will also be there to support participants.

For young athletes, that means an opportunity to learn from college players, ask questions and see where continued participation in the sport might lead. For families, it is a chance to connect with the wider lacrosse community taking shape across Northern Arizona.

The players on the college sideline will become people the kids can meet and learn from on the field.

Make an afternoon of it

Families are encouraged to come early and cheer for the Lumberjacks. NAU opens against GCU at 11 a.m. and plays Arizona Storm at 1 p.m., with GCU and Arizona Storm meeting in between.

Watching together gives young players a chance to notice the passing, movement and teamwork they practice themselves—then see those skills put to use at a different level.

The youth Play Day begins at 2 p.m. The focus remains on playing, learning and building connections across our regional lacrosse community.
