Free Flagstaff Youth Lacrosse Clinic Invites Kids to Learn the Game of Lacrosse
Lacrosse is growing in Northern Arizona—and Flagstaff kids now have a chance to pick up a stick and experience the game for free.
Northern Arizona Youth Lacrosse will host a free Flagstaff youth lacrosse clinic on Sunday, August 16, 2026, from 10:00–11:30 a.m. at the Sinagua Middle School practice field. The clinic is open to boys and girls entering grades K–12, including complete beginners who have never played lacrosse before.
No equipment? No problem. NAYL will provide everything participants need to try the sport.
A Beginner-Friendly Introduction to Lacrosse
For families unfamiliar with the game, this free clinic offers a relaxed, welcoming way to see what youth lacrosse is all about—without purchasing equipment or committing to an entire season first.
Participants will be introduced to foundational lacrosse skills such as:
holding and controlling a lacrosse stick;
scooping ground balls;
passing and catching;
cradling and carrying the ball;
shooting; and
working with teammates through games and drills.
The goal is not to arrive knowing how to play. The goal is to leave understanding the basics, feeling more confident, and—ideally—wanting to pick up a stick again.
Who Can Attend the Flagstaff Lacrosse Clinic?
The clinic is open to boys and girls entering kindergarten through 12th grade. No previous lacrosse experience is necessary, and children do not need to be current USA Lacrosse members to participate in this introductory clinic.
Experienced players are also welcome to attend, get additional practice, meet local coaches, and connect with other young lacrosse players in Flagstaff.
All necessary lacrosse equipment will be available. Players who already have their own stick or protective equipment are encouraged to bring it.
Why Try Youth Lacrosse?
Lacrosse is a fast-moving team sport that combines speed, coordination, strategy, communication, and creativity. It gives young athletes opportunities to develop skills that extend well beyond the field, including confidence, leadership, resilience, and teamwork.
It can also be a natural fit for children who already enjoy soccer, basketball, hockey, football, or other field sports—but previous athletic experience is not required.
Most importantly, the Flagstaff clinic is designed to give kids a chance to try something new in an encouraging environment. There is no expectation that participants will show up looking like seasoned lacrosse players. Frankly, that would defeat the purpose of a beginner clinic.
What Should Players Bring?
Participants should wear comfortable athletic clothing and closed-toe athletic shoes or cleats. Families should also bring:
a full water bottle;
sunscreen;
weather-appropriate clothing; and
any personal lacrosse equipment the player would like to use.
NAYL will provide lacrosse sticks and other required equipment for players who need it.
A parent or legal guardian must complete the required participation waiver before a child may take part in the clinic.
Building Youth Lacrosse in Flagstaff
The August clinic is part of a larger effort by Northern Arizona Youth Lacrosse to make recreational lacrosse more accessible throughout Northern Arizona.
NAYL is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization providing inclusive boys’ and girls’ lacrosse opportunities in Flagstaff, Prescott, Sedona, and surrounding communities. Its mission is to help young athletes build confidence, stay active, develop leadership skills, and experience the sense of belonging that comes from being part of a team.
